La Crosse City Planning Commission approves rezoning of future apartments, grant for trail
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – La Crosse’s City Planning Commission voted to rezone a future four-story building in the Washburn neighborhood.
The building will have 64 housing units.
In order to have a better chance of qualifying for low-income tax credits, the developer, Cinnaire Solutions, is adding a 360-square-foot classroom or community facility.
The room would be open for public use as a classroom.
“These programs and services could include financial literacy classes, employment counseling, job readiness skills, GED classes, and much more,” said Senior Planner for the city Tim Acklin.
The programming and scheduling of the space would be up to the on-side property manager.
Since it would be open to the public, the building needed to be zoned differently.
The building will have both low-income and market-rate units.
The commission also approved a grant agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to expand the Wagon Wheel Trail.
The trail is already open in La Crescent.
The grant will fund expansions to connect that trail with La Crosse.
The trail will run along Highway 14/61 and cross the Mississippi River.
There are also plans to widen sidewalks and add signage.
