La Crosse Co. Historical Society rehearses for Discover the Silent City
LA CROSSE, WI — The La Crosse County Historical Society is preparing to take people back in time to the Civil War era.
Group members are busy rehearsing for the Discover the Silent City event scheduled for next weekend.
It honors the 350 Civil War veterans buried at the cemetery by re-enacting their stories.
Organizers will give tours with a focus on educating people about the Vicksburg campaign, Gettysburg and the impacts of the war here in La Crosse in 1863.
Organizers say it’s an important way to help people connect with the past and remember the stories of those that went before them.

So we just like to bring everyone together and teach as much as we can about the past,” said La Crosse County Historical Society employee Lee Worrell.
The tours will be held next Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse.
Tours start at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m.
Tours will start every 15 minutes.
Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for students with ID.
