Update: La Crosse commission to host public hearing on historic designation for Fire Station No. 4

Preservation Alliance Of La Crosse Shares Plan To Keep Fire Station No. 4, Build New Station On Same Block

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Heritage Preservation Commission of La Crosse is hosting a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday to talk about whether La Crosse Fire Station 4 on Gillette Street should be designated a historic site.

People are invited to share their opinions in-person at the South Side Neighborhood Center, 1300 Sixth St. S., La Crosse.

The future of the 80-year-old building has come into question after the city made plans in 2018 to demolish it and replace it with a facility that better suits the fire department’s needs. Earlier this year, the Preservation Alliance of La Crosse circulated a petition to save the building, repurposing it in a way to retain its historic significance.

There is also a virtual option.
