La Crosse considers banning couches on porches
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Putting a couch out on your porch could soon be illegal in La Crosse.
The La Crosse Common Council is considering an ordinance which would ban having upholstered furniture outside of your house. This would include your deck, porch, roof, or balcony.
Many believe the couches, unless designed to be outside, are not only an eye sore but also a potential fire hazard.
“A most recent one was on 14th Street between pine and vine where an interior upholstered couch was being used on a porch exteriorly and started smoldering caught on fire in the middle of the night and we lost that whole building because of it,” La Crosse Fire Assistant Chief Warren Thomas.
The full City Council will vote on the ordinance next Thursday.
