La Crosse County judge issues warning for doctor during hearing on three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13

After his Oct. 15 arrest, Dr. Joseph Poterucha posted a $25,000 bond

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A La Crosse County judge issued a stern warning to the Mayo Clinic Health System pediatrician and ICU doctor charged with three counts of first degree sexual assault of a child under 13.

Dr. Joseph Poterucha’s attorney appeared via zoom during a court hearing Wednesday afternoon, but Poterucha was not seen during the hearing.

La Crosse County Circuit Court Judge Romana Gonzalez said Poterucha has to show his face.

“It’s her responsibility to provide her client,” Gonzalez said. “If he is unable to get into video, let us know. But if he is going to appear by zoom, he is going to have to show his face.”

After his Oct. 15 arrest, Poterucha posted a $25,000 bond and is living in Rochester.

He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing this month.
