La Crosse County offers seniors vouchers for fresh food from farmer’s markets

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center is offering $25 vouchers to low-income seniors in our area.

County residents who are 60 years old or older and considered low-income can apply for the vouchers, which allow them to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits, vegetables and herbs from participating farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs.

According to Carissa Pagel-Smith, ADRC Manager, “We all know how important it is to consume fresh fruits and vegetables. This program not only provides seniors with these important nutrients but also supports our local farmers and produce stands.”

A limited number of vouchers are available therefore completed applications will be processed in the order received. Vouchers may be used at one or more of the following approved markets:

Cameron Park Farmer’s Market, Fridays 4-7:30 p.m. & Saturdays 8 a.m.-1 p.m.;

  • Festival Foods-Holmen, Wednesdays 3-7 p.m.;
  • Festival Foods-Onalaska, Sundays 8 a.m.-1 p.m.;
  • Hmong Cultural and Community Center, Thursdays 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.;
  • Jolivette Family Farms, Mondays-Fridays 8 a.m.-8 p.m. & Sundays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and,
  • Traastad Produce Farmstand(All Star Lanes), Saturdays & Sundays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eligible La Crosse County residents can apply by calling ADRC at 608-785-5700 or visiting the ADRC office at the Health & Human Services building at 300 Fourth St. N., La Crosse.
