La Crosse Fire Department holds dedication ceremony for new rig

Quint 1 dedicated to firefighter who lost his life in line of duty

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Fire Department welcomed a new firetruck into its fleet Tuesday.

The truck, Quint 1, is dedicated to Jim McCormick.

He was a firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty on November 28th, 1957.

As is the tradition in fire service, firefighters pushed the new rig into the garage.

Fire Chief Ken Gilliam says it’s a good opportunity to reflect and honor the men and women who came before them, especially those they’ve lost.

“As we look back in time to take a moment to memorialize, really it’s a sticker on a truck but it’s taking time to reflect about how far we’ve come since 1957, and the sacrifices that people like Jim McCormick made,” says Gilliam.

McCormick’s family was in attendance for the ceremonony.

The new rig is a combination pumping unit and ladder.
