La Crosse Fire Dept. asks residents to ‘adopt’ a hydrant

With some nasty winter weather heading our way, La Crosse’s fire department needs your help.

The department is asking residents to adopt a fire hydrant. That means if you live near a fire hydrant, make sure it’s clear of any snow.

This will help firefighters save time in the most critical moments.

“Take a few minutes and adopt a hydrant if you have one on your street corner. Shovel it out for your local fire department, so in the event of a fire in that neighborhood, or on that block,  we can save some precious seconds and minutes hooking up the water supply to get to the fire,” Asst. Fire Chief Warren Thomas.

The department says to clear at least about a three foot radius around the hydrant when shoveling.
