La Crosse firefighters celebrate Thanksgiving on duty with shared meal
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — For first responders, there are no off days. Members of the La Crosse Fire Department are making the most of working a holiday.
Firefighters cook Thanksgiving dinner together. They roast a turkey and prepare a meal to share.
Lt. Matt Miller says Thanksgiving dinner is a chance for first responders’ second family to come together.
“We work together one-third of the year, and we’re with our family two-thirds of the year. So celebrating with our coworkers is essentially our family in fire service,” Miller said.
Responders said they still get plenty of calls on days like Thanksgiving, especially since everyone in the community is cooking.
They also said that having this celebration helps make working on a holiday better.
