La Crosse firefighters donate winter coats to local kids

Coat donation part of 'Operation Warm'

Students in the La Crosse School District will be extra warm this winter thanks to a generous donation from the La Crosse Firefighters – Local 127.

The firefighters donated 126 winter coats to students as part of “Operation Warm,” a community outreach program designed specifically for the International Association for Fire Fighters.

The firefighters delivered the coats with two fire trucks to La Crosse schools Thursday morning. Students on Safety Patrol helped unpack the donated coats.

“They are all specifically for certain individuals, certain students,” said La Crosse Firefighter Lt. Lance Tryggestad. “The school district helped out and then identified these students so each kid has a specific coat coming to them.”

Tryggestad says this is first year the La Crosse Firefighters – Local 127 participated in the event. They want to make it a tradition.
