La Crosse hosts public hearing on potentially adding historical designation to Maid-Rite building
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The building of a restaurant that shut down after nearly 70 years of serving the La Crosse area could soon gain a historical designation.
City of La Crosse officials held a public hearing Thursday evening on the possibility of declaring the former Maid-Rite building a historical landmark. While the building may not have had a major impact, some residents say it holds a lot of local significance.
“I’m 100-percent positive that George Washington never ate there, or Lincoln, but there’s a lot of local guys that had lunch there a couple times a week,” said Real Estate Agent Joe Van Aelstyn.
Maid-Rite’s La Crosse location opened in 1947 and closed in 2016
