La Crosse joins elite group as a ‘Main Street Community’
City selected by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation after intense application process
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse is officially the newest ‘Main Street Community’ in Wisconsin.
The city is now part of an organization of communities statewide that have shown they’re committed to downtown revitalization.
It’s not easy an easy group to get into — La Crosse is the only community to join the elite group this year.
After an intense application process, the state’s Economic Development Corporation chose La Crosse. The distinction is evidence of all the hard work being done to enhance the downtown area.
It also helps officials move forward with future plans.
“Anytime you can align yourself with a state organization and work more closely with them, it really helps you to improve your program, to give you the kind of technical assistance communities need to be more vibrant,” said Robin Moses, executive director of Downtown Main Street, Inc.
Next, community officials will meet with representatives of the Wisconsin Main Street Program to set up new initiatives and create more goals for downtown La Crosse.
