La Crosse K-9 program gets donation from Hougom Foundation
Donation made by Sara Rose Hougom Foundation
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Police Department’s K-9 unit is getting some help from the community.
The Sara Rose Hougom Foundation presented a check for $1000 to the K-9 program Monday.
The foundation works to keep drugs off the streets of La Crosse and put an end to drug-related violence. The money for the donation was raised at a recent spaghetti dinner and includes a donation from the Moose Lodge.
Members of the department say all of the training and care that goes into the K-9 program makes any donation appreciated.
“Anytime a donation comes in, you know where the money is going to, it’s something you can see in the community,” said Sgt. Jon Wenger. “So if someone makes a donation, they see the dog, they know where the money’s going to. It’s not to a squad car, it’s not to a badge and uniform, it’s not to a tool on the tool belt or anything like that, it’s for the dog.”
Money donated to the K-9 program goes toward paying for monthly and quarterly training as well as equipment and food for the dogs.
