La Crosse Loggers host open house at newly renovated Lumberyard

Memorial Day weekend means we’re getting closer to Opening Day at the Lumberyard.

The La Crosse Loggers hosted an open house Friday at the newly renovated ‘Copeland Park and Events Center.’

The team’s general manager says people will notice a long list of new features when they walk through the gates next week.

“We have a full-fledged ticket office now. Brand new ticket windows brought up to the speed of technology that goes with that. A really nice, professional looking pro shop that is also air conditioned for all those hot days for you to go into. The restrooms… night and day difference from what was here before to now. The number of restrooms have tripled,” said GM Chris Goodell.

The new event center will be available for use twelve months out of the year.

The director of parks, recreation and forestry says the partnership between the city and the Loggers provides a unique opportunity for the community.

“I think if people understood that the Logger’s use it about a third of the time. The rest of the time UW-L home baseball team is in here, Viterbo comes in here, the high schools come in here. And groups from around the region whether it’s in Iowa or Minnesota, they come here to enjoy this experience too. It’s more about the region and the community and the partnerships that exist,” said Steve Carlyon.

The parks department will be making improvements to the park this summer as well. They are replacing the splash pad, putting in a new playground and redoing the tennis courts.

Opening night for the La Crosse Loggers is Tuesday, May 30th.
