VERNON COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — A La Crosse man was injured at about 9:41 p.m. Wednesday after the street sweeper he was operating was overturned during a two-vehicle crash in Vernon County.

Dannie Turner, 60, was operating a street sweeper on Hwy. 35 at the intersection of Battle Hollow Road in the town of Wheatland when Richard Logan, 71, Cedarburg, pulled out in front of him, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

Turner could not avoid the collision and struck the other vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they found the street sweeper on its side with Turner trapped inside. Logan’s vehicle was not at the scene and was found a half mile south of the crash.

Wheatland Fire Department was able to get Turner out of his vehicle and he was taken by Tri-State Ambulance Service to Gundersen Health System. Neither Logan nor his passenger were injured.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident.

Logan was arrested on charges of injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was also assisted by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Wheatland First Responders.
