La Crosse PD: 40 window smashes reported in mid-August
No arrests have been made yet, according to La Crosse Police Lieutenant Linnea Miller.
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — From Friday, August 12 through Tuesday, August 23, there were 40 reports of people smashing windows of vehicles and residences citywide, according to the La Crosse Police Department.
Rocks were used during the recent string of window-smashing incidents and the majority of the crimes happened on La Crosse’s North Side, police said.
No arrests have been made yet, according to La Crosse Police Lieutenant Linnea Miller.
Miller said anyone with security camera video of the incidents should share the clips with the department.
“We would love to hear from you and that would greatly help to catch these people,” said Miller.
Miller added that people need to be sure to keep the doors of their vehicles locked and to remove important items from them for protection.
“Take any important items you might have in your vehicles, take them out each day,” she said.
Angela Smith lives on Onalaska Avenue on La Crosse’s North Side. She said that back in April, her garage was hit with eggs and another piece of debris that left a dent in the window.
“I realized there was glass in my garage,” she said. “I kind of thought it was like a teenage prank or something,” she added.
If you see anyone in the act of damaging windows, police said to call 911 to report it.
If you have any information related to the recent string of incidents from earlier this month, police said to contact the non-emergency number for the La Crosse Police Department which is 608-782-7575.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously to the La Crosse Area Crimestoppers at 608-782-TIPS (8477) or online at lacrossecrimestoppers.com.
