La Crosse Police Department disposes of 912 pounds of drugs

Officers transport prescription drugs to Eau Claire to be incinerated

Nearly half a ton of unused prescription drugs are making their way out of La Crosse County Monday.

The La Crosse Police Department is transporting 912 pounds of prescription drugs to Eau Claire to be incinerated. Six local law enforcement agencies consolidated their drug collections at the La Crosse Police Department to be disposed of.

Officers say it is important to get rid of your unwanted drugs properly.

“You’re talking about medications that could have easily been flushed down the toilet, medications that could have ended up in landfills, or worse yet, medications that could end up in the hands of a drug addict or young people. Those are the things we don’t want to see happen,” said La Crosse Police Department Sergeant Tom Walsh.

If you have any unused and unwanted prescription drugs, you can contact your local police department to find out how to properly dispose of them.
