La Crosse Police Department: Don’t become a thief’s target after the holidays
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — As your family is enjoying new toys and gadgets you’ll want to prevent yourself from being targeted by thieves.
Those big ticket gifts, like a new television or computer, can be tempting for those less trustworthy people. So make sure you break down any boxes and packaging from those items so others cannot easily tell what may be inside your home.
Leaving a light on when you’re away at night or on vacation can also help. And work with your neighbors to keep your sidewalks shoveled if you’ll be gone for a while.
“If you put the boxes out it’s going to advertise. If you leave them all sitting in one area and somebody can look in your window and see all the new stuff that’s sitting there not hooked up, easy to be taken and hauled out of the house, it can make you a target,” said La Crosse Police Department Captain Jason Melby.
If you notice something suspicious make sure you report it to your local police department.
