La Crosse police: Keep kids safe during trick-or-treating
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Little ghosts and goblins will be out looking for candy this weekend.
To keep them safe, parents should encourage kids to carry glow sticks or flashlight, use reflective tape and wear light colors so kids can be seen by drivers.
If your kids are under 12, consider joining them while trick or treating.
And remind kids to cross streets at corners or crosswalks.
There is plenty drivers can do to keep kids safe as well.
“Just minimize the distractions inside the vehicle and be mindful that there is going to be lots of little ones out and about trick-or-treating that aren’t always as visible,” said La Crosse Police Sgt. Cory Brandl.
Kids may dart into the street, so slow down and be alert.
And drive with your headlights on, so you can see kids sooner and they can see you.
