LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Police Department is celebrating the promotion of members of the force.

Phil Martin is now Capt. Martin and Jason Melby was promoted to assistant chief.

Melby has served 28 years in La Crosse and says his new position is more than a new title.

“As you move your way through the ranks within the police department, you always look at your next promotion as an opportunity. There isn’t an opportunity much greater than this,” Melby said.

Martin has served with the La Crosse Police Department for 13 years.
