La Crosse Rail Fair to raise money for Short Line Railroad Heritage Museum

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The La Crosse Rail Fair in Copeland Park Saturday will raise money to maintain the Short Line Railroad Heritage Museum at the park.

Vendors from six states will participate in the annual fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., selling items ranging from model trains and toys to books and railroad art.

“The railroad industry was very important to the La Crosse heritage,” said Mark Hamre, president of the 4000 Foundation, a nonprofit that restores, preserves and maintains the CB&Q Steam Locomotive and Grand Crossing Tower display in Copeland Park.

“There’s a lot of families going back many generations who were associated with the industry, so there’s a lot of history here,” Hamre said.
