La Crosse School District approves money for athletic improvements

Improvements at area schools are bringing life back to their playgrounds.

The La Crosse district approved more than a million dollars for improvements at its athletic facilities.

Some of the money will go to  replacing the wooden gym floor at Longfellow Middle and add artificial turf at Lincoln Middle.

District officials say the improvements give students more options not only when it comes to physical-education, but also outdoor practices.

“To be able to have our co-circulars and activities here now, on sight, is really important not only for us, the people in the building, but for the neighborhood to see it, for people to see the school is alive again,” said Eric Check.

The rest of the money will go to artificial turf and resurfacing the track at Logan High School, along with other improvements.

The money comes from donations, grants, and the district’s capital maintenance budget.
