La Crosse school officials break ground on new elementary school

Shovels are in the ground for La Crosse’s newest elementary school.

The ceremonial groundbreaking was held Friday morning at the former Franklin site.

Dozens of people were on hand to see the start of construction on the $14.5 million building.

School and city officials spoke, along with a presentation of former students on the history of the building site.

La Crosse’s superintendent said it will have a bigger impact than just a better building for the students. “Schools do make a big difference in terms of the communities and in terms of the neighborhoods, they make a huge difference in support of communities and the parents and the children of those neighborhoods,” said Superintendent Randy Nelson.

The school is on schedule to open its doors in time for the next school year.
