La Crosse schools superintendent takes Ice Bucket Challenge

Randy Nelson takes challenge as part of employee gathering

School District of La Crosse Superintendent Randy Nelson took the Ice Bucket Challenge as part of the all-employee gathering at Central High School Thursday morning.

Nelson told the staff he got 25 different requests to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He did it in honor of two of his friends who lost their battle with ALS in 2010.

“I can tell you that both of them fought with a tremendous amount of dignity. They met challenges of the day,” Nelson said. “The challenges that you’re going to meet in our classrooms are not nearly the challenges that these individuals met and all those that we think about when we do this.”

Members of the Logan High School Marching Band helped pour the bucket(s) of water on Nelson’s head as he sat in a chair in an empty swimming pool.

When it was over, Nelson said: “And now of your superintendent of schools, I hereby declare, school is in session!”
