La Crosse students celebrate German heritage at festgrounds

A trip to the Oktoberfest grounds took local students to a different part of the world Wednesday.

Third graders from La Crosse learned about German heritage and culture at the LHI Festplatz, located at the north side grounds. Their teachers were German students from Logan High School.

They sang German songs, learned about the country’s tradition, and made some German treats like Ice Cream Spaghetti. “They know a lot about the language, they know a lot about the culture and now it’s their turn to give back to the community and share their knowledge and everything they’ve learned,” said Logan H.S. German teacher Ashley Knutson.

“It’s lots of German stuff here that I know and it’s really fun and kind of remembering home,” said German student Judith Schnittcher.
