La Crosse students mark Walk to School Day

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Some students in La Crosse are getting some extra use of their shoes heading to school.

The School District of La Crosse joined the national ‘Walk to School Day on Wednesday.

It’s a day that highlights the importance of safety for kids as they travel to and from school.

“You could feel it. It was the palpable, the excitement in the air. And you know, kids got up and got physical. Great way to start the day, get the brain going,” said Southern Bluff Elementary School Principal Lisa Schreiner.

Students were excited for the day as well.

“I just love getting exercise walking to school, because I never really get to,” Liam Wilkinson, Southern Bluffs Elementary 5th grader.

It was the 25th year of Walk to School Day across the U.S.
