La Crosse students take part in ‘Camp Frog Pond’
Kids at Summit Elementary learn through outdoor activities
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Students at a La Crosse environmental school are heading out into nature.
Summit Elementary School 5th graders are taking part in Camp Frog Pond. The goal is to take students into an outdoor classroom.
Some of the more fun activities include rappelling over a wall, a low ropes course and cooking lessons. There’s also some schoolwork tied into it.
“Learning about nature, doing science and art and music and P.E., and we’re incorporating everything in this,” said Summit Elementary 5th grade teacher Erica Rasmussen.
“We’re getting to the end of the 5th grade year, so we just wanted to do something so we can remember 5th grade,” added student Mason Sather.
Thursday night, students will camp out in tents a teacher bought thanks to a grant from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. They’ll be joined by various staff members who have stories to tell.
