La Crosse unemployment rate drops to 5%

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Unemployment rates drop in all of Wisconsin’s metro areas, according to preliminary numbers released by the state Wednesday.

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) says the La Crosse metro area’s November unemployment rate was 5%, down from 5.2% in October.

The city of La Crosse’s unemployment rate was 6.1%, down from 6.5% in October, and La Crosse County’s rate 6.1%, down from 6.5% in October.

The Madison metro area has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 4.7%. The Janesville metro area (8.4%) and the Racine metro area (8.2%) have the highest unemployment rates in the state.

Wisconsin’s unemployment rate dropped in November to 7.3% (7.7% in October), but the state also lost private sector jobs for the fifth straight month.

The national unemployment rate was 8.6% in November.
