La Crosse warming center opens for the Winter
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – As the weather gets colder, the Catholic Charities Warming Center is preparing for the winter.
The warming center in La Crosse is now open and will stay open until the end of April.
Warming center directors say they are still accepting donations of various winter clothes, blankets, and meals to help with the guests who come in.
They are also in need of volunteers to help at the warming center during the day along with overnight shifts.
The warming center relies heavily on volunteers and directors say it helps out the homeless population a lot.
“Well, the volunteers help us facilitate serving food, laundry, or helping with various chores whether it be cleaning or sitting and talking with the guests. It’s actually how I started helping here for that matter,” said warming center coordinator, Johnny Wadzinski.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the warming center can currently host 34 individuals.
Normally, it can hold just under 50 people.
