La Crosse YMCA providing more mental health screenings
Free weekly screenings to start in January
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Area YMCA is providing more opportunities for people to check on their mental health.
The Y held a free mental health screening at the R.W. Houser Family YMCA in Onalaska Tuesday night.
Organizers at the Y say this can be a difficult time of year for many people, whether it’s colder, darker days affecting their mood or the holidays causing anxiety.
Mental Health Director Sarah Johnson encourages anyone not feeling like themselves to talk with a professional to determine if they’re showing signs of depression.
“Anyone should come in if they’ve got concerns about their mood or concentration, if they’re having difficulty sleeping, any kinds of concerns where they’re thinking, ‘Hmm, this is not like me typically,’ that’s a good time to come check it out,” said Johnson.
As part of their efforts to get more people to talk about their own mental health and recognize the warning signs, the La Crosse Area YMCA will be hosting weekly mental health screenings starting in January.
