La Crosse Youth Symphony preps 50-year anniversary celebration
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Youth Symphony Orchestra is preparing for its 50th anniversary concert.
Since 1967, the orchestra has provided a musical outlet for young musicians in the area.
On Sunday afternoon, a combination of current members and alumni will perform a concert including a song commissioned and conducted by famous composer Robert W. Smith.
Over the years, 500 musicians have been a part of the group and organizers say bringing together the different generations is truly special.
“It’s actually almost an indescribable feeling for me. When I stood up on the podium today just to speak a little bit and take an A from the oboe, it actually gave me goosebumps. This is 50 years worth of students having great musical experiences and there are people still carrying that tradition on,” said Randy Mastin, artistic director for the La Crosse Youth Symphony.
Show starts on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Viterbo Fine Arts Center.
