La Crosse’s ReNEW program kicks off
Program aimed at improving our neighborhoods
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — ReNEW La Crosse Neighborhoods 2014 kicked off Sunday.
It’s a partnership of both the community and local organizations to make our neighborhoods a better place to live. Volunteers signed up to help with painting, landscaping. and general yard clean up. They also looked to assist residents with home repairs.
More than 30 homes were on the agenda Sunday, but the workload came second to the importance in helping out. “It’s just a really good community building project, it feels good,” said Amanda Aklin from Habitat for Humanity, “I think the residents and the community members enjoy it”
70 community members volunteered their time to help. One La Crosse resident said she thinks it’s both enjoyable and for a good cause. “I think it’s kind of fun, I think it’s important to give back if you can and help out people who can’t do it for themselves,” said volunteer Diane Sewell.
Volunteers will be helping out again on May 10th, 17th and on the 31st. ReNEW aims to finish 40 projects before they end their effort on June 7th.
