La Farge volunteer firefighter receives national recognition

Funds from Firemark Award to be used for new firefigter helmets

Lyle Dorschied is the Liberty Mutual Firemark Award Winner for Community Service & Education.

Dorschied is a volunteer firefighter and president of the La Farge Volunteer Fire Department. He’s been with the Department since 1973.

Besides his firefighting duties, Dorschied volunteers for the Pre-K through 2nd grade program at the firs station during Fire Prevention Week.

“After 41 years in the Department, Lyle still has the youthful enthusiasm he brought to the Department back in 1973,” said La Farge Fire Department Chief Philip Stittleburg. “His commitment is unmatched. He is still the first one in the fire station for emergency calls. As much as any one person can define a department, Lyle defines the La Farge Volunteer Fire Department.”

Dorschied will receive a $10,000 donation that will be used to buy new helmets for the Department.  He also won a trip for four to New York City.

There will be an open house at La Farge Volunteer Fire Department in conjunction with the check presentation on Sunday, May 2.

Firefighter Jordan Sullivan from the New York City Fire Department was also recognized. He is the Liberty Mutual National Firemark Award Winner for Heroism. The $10,000 Sullivan will receive will be used toward fire department training programs.
