Lasee takes step toward US Senate run

DE PERE, Wis. (AP) — Another Republican state lawmaker has filed paperwork for a U.S. Senate run.

Sen. Frank Lasee as filed with the Federal Election Commission, which allows him to begin raising money for a Senate campaign. State Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald has also filed a statement of organization with the FEC and has plans to make an official announcement of his candidacy next week.

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann was the first Republican to announce his run for the Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Herb Kohl. Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson is among those who are also interested in the seat.

Lasee was elected to the state Senate last year after serving seven terms in the Assembly.
