Latino group sues Wisconsin GAB over redistricting plan

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Latino community group in Wisconsin has filed a federal lawsuit against the new legislative redistricting plan.

Voces de la Frontera says the plan deprives the Latino community on Milwaukee’s south side of an effective voting majority in the 8th Assembly district.

A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report says the lawsuit was filed Monday against the state’s Government Accountability Board.

The group’s executive director is Christine Neumann-Ortiz. She says the population of the local Latino community is enough to support a single legislative district with a majority of voting-age Latinos. She says the new maps would make it harder for them to elect candidates of their choice.

GAB spokesman Reid Magney said Tuesday his office hasn’t received a copy of the lawsuit and he couldn’t comment.
