Law enforcement officials pull body from Iowa river
PLEASANT HILL, Iowa (AP) — Crews have pulled a body from the Des Moines River in Yellow Banks Park just southeast of Pleasant Hill.
Des Moines television station KCCI reports (http://bit.ly/1QvfXed) that someone spotted the body in the river Friday and alerted a Polk County Conservation officer. Polk County deputies, detectives, a boat recovery team and medical examiner were sent to the park to investigate around 5:15 p.m.
The body, caught in the river’s current, was found about 14 miles downstream from the initial sighting. Authorities are working to identify the person.
Four days earlier, two fishermen reported hearing a man yelling for help in the river on the north side of Des Moines, but a two-day search of the river did not turn up anything.
