Lawyer vows to reveal mystery behind lotto jackpot

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A New York lawyer representing a trust that turned in a winning lottery ticket hours before the deadline for a $14.3 million jackpot says he’ll come to Iowa next week to explain the mysterious circumstances.

Crawford Shaw told The Associated Press on Wednesday he is not the winner himself and he’ll reveal the members of Hexam Investments Trust when he meets with Iowa Lottery officials.

Shaw says, “I think we have an interesting situation. I think everything will be OK when all the facts are put on the table.”

Shaw signed the winning Hot Lotto ticket, which was turned in by a Des Moines law firm he retained less than two hours before last week’s deadline.

Lottery officials won’t pay the jackpot until they’re satisfied the ticket was legally possessed.
