Lenny Dykstra claims Uber driver kidnapped him

Lenny Dykstra is blaming an Uber driver for an incident last month that led to criminal charges for the former major-leaguer.

During a news conference with his attorneys in New York on Friday, Dykstra said that the driver, Brian Lutty, threatened him after Dykstra asked to change the trip’s destination, according to The Associated Press.

Police in Linden, New Jersey, charged Dykstra with making terroristic threats and drug offenses, saying that officers found cocaine, MDMA and marijuana in Dykstra’s possessions after the early morning May 23 incident.

“That morning Lenny Dykstra was the victim,” attorney Matthew Bilt said, saying that Dykstra will also be seeking damages against Uber.

Dykstra has filed false imprisonment charges against Lutty, with those charges pending in Linden Municipal Court, attorney Michael Brucki said during Friday’s news conference.

Dykstra’s attorneys also disputed most of the drug charges against him, saying that he only had “a small amount of marijuana.”

The driver told police that Dykstra held a gun to his head, but police said no weapon was found.

Dykstra, a three-time All-Star who played 12 seasons in the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, served more than six months in prison after pleading no contest in 2011 to charges of grand theft auto and providing a false financial statement.
