Recycled lights helps raise money for Rotary Club

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — If you find some dead or worn Christmas lights while decorating this year, don’t just throw them away.

The Rotary Club of La Crosse accepts and recycles old and used Christmas lights. The club teams up with Alter Trading in La Crosse to provide a dumpster for people to drop off their lights at the annual Rotary Lights display.

Club leaders say the lights have copper in them which also helps to raise a couple of thousand dollars each year for the Rotary Lights display.

“Don’t throw them in the trash. For us it’s a great help because we get enough of them where somewhere between one and two thousand dollars a year is what we get in recycling. But let me tell you, that’s a lot of lights to get to that amount,” said Rotary Lights President Pat Stephens.
