Lincoln Middle School students hear stories from local Army veteran
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Kids at Lincoln Middle School in La Crosse are taking the day to appreciate and learn about veterans by hearing directly from them.
Northside Elementary School’s principal, Nicki Ells is an Army veteran.
She spoke to kids today about her experience.
She says she hopes students can see military service in a positive light.
“I think it’s just important for them to understand that, sometimes we have a stigma to what a veteran looks like or what a service member looks like and that you can be enlisted, you can be in any branch of the service. It has nothing to do with your race or your sex or ethnicity, anything like that,” said Ells.
Teachers also helped students understand military service by encouraging them to share stories about their own family members who are veterans.
