Local collaboration creates educational ‘Building Champions Trail’
Trail features information on rattlesnakes, wild orchids and turkeys
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A new recreational opportunity is coming to the Coulee Region.
The 1.3 mile ‘Building Champions Trail’ offers three scenic overlooks and features educational information on rattlesnakes, wild orchids and turkeys.
The trail is located in Hixon Forest, and was built through a partnership of nine area businesses, UW-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletic Department and the city of La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
One of the partners of the new trail says collaborations like this are important to help make these opportunities for the community available.
“A lot of times there’s not a lot of funding allocated in city budgets, so we really need to kind of look outside the box as to how we can accomplish some of these projects that are extremely crucial to the city of La Crosse,” said La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Superintendent Jay Odegaard.
The nine businesses involved in the collaboration will be revealed during a press conference at UWL this Friday.
