Local college graduate helps wash away student lunch debt

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT)  – An area woman is taking matters into her own hands, washing away lunch debt.

Emelia Schindeldecker recently graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin.

Now she’s back in her home-town doing something she loves: helping students.

Instead of a traditional graduation party, her family’s carwash hosted a fundraiser.

It’s to raise money for Feed the Kids, which helps erase school lunch debt for students at Winona Area Public Schools.

All the proceeds from carwashes, plus all the kind donations, will go toward the cause.

She says it’s how she wants to give back to the community that’s supported her.

“A lot of kids rely on school for stability, so COVID-19 has obviously put a little bit of a bump in the road for a lot of kids, so I thought this would be a great way to help keep some of that stability,” Schindeldecker said.

Next fall she will start her career as a Special Education teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools.
