Local cornhole competition more than just a game

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)– People are taking their love of cornhole to a new level with friendly competition for a big prize.

The Badger State Games is hosting a ‘bring your own bags’ competition where 64 teams are competing for gold, bronze, and silver metals. It started Saturday morning at the Moose Lodge in La Crosse.

Players will also have the chance to go on to an even bigger competition. Attendees said they are enjoying the game now more than ever.

“It’s kind of one of those things where we get to forget about what’s going on out in the real world and just come and have a good time. This started as backyard game but now that is something that people are playing all around the United States at a competitive level,” said Michael Taggart, the Coulee Region Cornhole Commissioner.

The first-place winner of Saturday’s tournament will have the chance to play in the state championship game. That big game will be played in Wausau in February.
