Local families receive donations of food, present

Salvation Army distributes donations

The holidays will look a little brighter for local families thanks to the Salvation Army of La Crosse.

Thursday was Program Distribution Day, when more than four-hundred area families stop by Onalaska’s National Guard Armory to pick up Angel Giving Tree presents and Christmas Food Baskets.

More than 100 volunteers took part in the annual distribution day.

The programs benefit low-income families in the La Crosse area.

“They get an opportunity to interact with each other outside of school in a positive way that’s not academic, but all about giving, and I think that’s the biggest part is they want to feel a party of something bigger than themselves,” said Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton High School Spanish Teacher Denise Buckbee.

Angel Giving Tree gifts were donated by community members. Some of the food in the Christmas Food Baskets was collected through fundraisers at local elementary schools and churches.
