Local fire department makes a big upgrade

TOWN OF SHELBY, Wis. (WKBT) – There was a special introduction in the Town of Shelby on Thursday.

It’s 33-feet long, 11 feet high and weighs 25 tons!

It’s a brand new….fire engine!

It made its way here from South Dakota and it’s specially made to fit the fire department’s needs.

The new rig is being added to the fleet thanks to the community’s support.

The fire department says this is a key piece of equipment for fighting fires.

“The fire engines we have are showing their age and getting old, so we decided it’s best off to upgrade and get something a little bit better to take us into the next 10 to 15 years,” said Assistant Chief Tony Holinka.

Over the next few days, the fire department will be loading the truck with equipment and conducting trainings.
