Local hospital foundation moves to downtown La Crosse
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Gundersen Medical Foundation is moving to its new office to a building in downtown La Crosse.
The former Wettstein building located on 3rd Street will house the foundation. The building was also a site of a former Gundersen Clinic.
The Gundersen Medical Foundation focuses on the education, research, outreach, and the philanthropic side of Gundersen Health System. Healthcare workers can be trained through the foundation and multiple clinical trials are funded by the foundation throughout the year.
Foundation Chair Dr. Stephen Shapiro says the move is a win-win. He says the move will allow Gundersen to free up space at the main campus for patient care. He says moving to downtown will put the foundation office in the heart of the community it serves.
“A lot of our work is in the community. To work with all levels of the community is really useful to us,” Shapiro said.
Staff will move in over the next month. The foundation is planning to hold a community open house sometime in September.
