Local organization encourages food growth
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Hillview Urban Agriculture Center is hosted its annual plant sale Saturday at their greenhouse in La Crosse.
People with the organization say they’re hoping to create a healthy community through local, sustainable, and accessible food.
They also say they want to bring back the old tradition of growing your own food because many people have lost that skill over the years.
“We know that that brings more resiliency in our community people eat healthier, they exercise more and it connects us better as a community because when you grow food you have too much of one thing and your neighbor has too much of another thing and it’s just good for the community in so many healthy ways.”
In addition to the plant sale, Hillview will be hosting two free mini-classes for beginning gardeners.
