Local organization hosts annual “Celebration of Heroes”

More than 200 individuals honored for life saving skills

Many people throughout the Coulee Region gathered in La Crosse Saturday night to honor heroes in our area.

The local Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association hosted its third annual hero’s banquet at All Star Lanes in La Crosse.

It’s a celebration that honors those who have played an important part in saving someone’s life when it comes to cardiac arrest

More than 200 individuals, whether they be bystanders, first responders, or 9-1-1 dispatchers, were honored for taking action when needed and saving lives.

One organizer said it’s an amazing event because some responders and their patients are meeting for the first time.

“As a former cardiac arrest victim myself, you have such a sense of wanting to payback and to thank people for the work they did to step up and save a life,” said Dr. Cheri Olson with Mayo Clinic Health System.

The money raised goes towards helping communities put automatic external defibrillators in public places, as well as training and education.
