Local organizations team up against hunger

More than 1,400 bags of groceries handed over 6 stops

It was a morning full of healthy breakfasts and healthy living tips in La Crosse.

The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, Gundersen Health System, United Healthcare, and Festival Foods all teamed up to address the issue of hunger in our community.

Bags filled with many breakfast essentials like eggs and milk were distributed across western Wisconsin this week, while Gundersen provided blood pressure checks alongside United Healthcare’s body mass index screenings.

Families were also able to learn about correct meal portions and the importance of a healthy breakfast.

“When we looked at Western Wisconsin and did some research, one of the things that we really noticed is that one of the unmet needs was hunger. As a health plan we know that if people are nutritionally sound, they’re also healthier, so we wanted to help meet that need,” said UnitedHealthcare Provider Engagement Specialist Rhonda Grabko.
