Local state lawmakers hold listening session on governor’s budget proposal

Three state lawmakers from the area are hearing from people about the govenor’s state budget proposal.

Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling, State Representative Steve Doyle, and State Senator Jeff Smith of Eau Claire held a listening session Thursday night at the Holmen Area County Library.

They heard about everything from recent flooding to the state’s deteriorating roads, but one of the topics that kept coming up was clean ground water.

“Water seems to be a unifying issue and if nothing else, if we can’t use that issue to unify us as a state and as a nation and as communities, I don’t know what else we can do. Everybody needs clean water,” said Senator Smith.

If you would still like to give your input on the governor’s budget proposal, Senator Shilling and State Representative Jill Billings of La Crosse will hold another listening session.

It’s scheduled for Thursday, April 4th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Police Station on Saint James Street on the La Crosse’s north side.
